Updating the DSX IP Telephone Firmware

1. Updating the Firmware from the Telephone

  1. Be sure you are connected to the internet. We host the new firmware on our ftp server, and you must be connected to the internet to reach the server.
  2. In DSX IP Telephone firmware versions 1.0.6.0 and earlier, the default ftp server address is 69.37.115.61. This address is no longer valid. You must change it to the new address 143.101.250.76. Firmware versions after 1.0.6.0 have the new address as the default setting.
  3. Press HOLD.
  4. Press CONF.
  5. Dial *.
  6. Dial #.
    1. This option is not available while the keyset is starting or initializing.
  7. Log onto the telephone as an administrator. By default:
    1. User Name = ADMIN
    2. Password = necdsx (632379)
  8. Select 3:Maintenance: 1:Download Menu: 2:Download Address.
    1. Enter 143*101*250*76 and push OK.
    2. Depending on the firmware version currently installed, this may be the default.
  9. Select 3:Protocol.
    1. Choose 1:FTP and push OK.
    2. This is the default setting.
  10. Select 4:FTP Settings.
    1. For 1:User ID, enter DSX and push OK.
    2. For 2:Password, enter FIRMWARE and push OK.
    3. Make sure 3:Folder has no entry.
    4. These are the default entries.
  11. Push Back to back up to the Download Menu.
  12. Select 1:Download Files + 2:Boot & Program.
    1. Accept the default displayed entry and push Exec.
    2. The telephone display flashes Downloading. . ., then shows the Saving... progress bar.
  13. When the update completes (about 5 minutes), push Exit to reset the telephone.
    1. The telephone will restart with the new firmware.
  14. When the IP Keyset has been successfully updated to 1.0.7.2, go to
    3: Maintenance -> 3: Data Clear -> 1: Factory Settings
    and reset the keyset to its factory defaults. This is important for two reasons:
    1. It sets the url ftp.necii.com as the new default Download Address.
    2. It sets the new option 2: SIP Settings -> 5: NAT Traversal -> 1: NAT Traversal Mode to Auto. This is the default setting and it is required for NAT Traversal with ANY Router to work.
  15. After updating the firmware and resetting to factory defaults, you only need to change the following options from default as required:
    1. 2: SIP Settings -> 1: SIP User -> 1: User ID, 2: Password, 3: Extension Number
    2. 2: SIP Settings -> 2: SIP Server -> 1: Server Address
    3. Also, if you set 1: Network Settings -> DHCP Mode to disabled you'll need to enter data for 1: Network Settings -> 2: IP Address, 3: Default Gateway -> 4: Subnet Mask

2. Updating the Firmware from your Web Browser

  1. Be sure you are connected to the internet. We host the new firmware on our ftp server, and you must be connected to the internet to reach the server.
  2. Type the telephone's IP address into your browser's address line.
    1. To find out the telephone's IP address, press CHECK for 2 seconds + 2.System Information + 1.Network Settings + Push Next.
  3. Log onto the telephone as an administrator. By default:
    1. User Name = ADMIN
    2. Password = 632379

  4. Select Maintenance Settings: Download Menu: Download Files: Boot & Program.

    3. Folder = (no entry)
    4. File name = (always use the default displayed entry)
    5. User ID = DSX
    6. Password = FIRMWARE
    7. These are the default settings.

    2. The telephone display shows Downloading..., then the Saving... progress bar.
  7. When the update completes (about 5 minutes), click OK to reset the telephone.
    1. The telephone will restart with the new firmware.
  8. When the IP Keyset has been successfully updated to 1.0.7.2, go to
    3: Maintenance -> 3: Data Clear -> 1: Factory Settings
    and reset the keyset to its factory defaults. This is important for two reasons:

    2. It sets the new option 2: SIP Settings -> 5: NAT Traversal -> 1: NAT Traversal Mode to Auto. This is the default setting and it is required for NAT Traversal with ANY Router to work.
